PBN Concept

PBN: no more need for Ground aids = MORE FLEXIBILITY

Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) specifies system performance requirements for aircraft operating along an Air Traffic System (ATS) route, on an instrument approach procedure or in a designated airspace.

The Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) concept specifies that aircraft RNAV system performance requirements be defined in terms of their accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity and functionality. These are needed for any proposed operations in the context of a particular airspace concept.

The next generation solutions are here today. RNAV and RNP enabling technology include:

  • Trajectory-Based Operations
  • Arrival/Departure at high-density airports
  • Increased flexibility at terminals and airports
  • Optimized descent profiles

These advances in aircraft capabilities and air traffic system operations have enabled transition and availability to performance-based operations, including RNAV and RNP.
